Malaysia’s semiconductor ambitions reached a major milestone today with the official opening of the Penang Silicon Research and Incubation Space, a purpose-built innovation hub under the Penang Silicon Design @5KM+ (PSD@5KM+) initiative. The event also spotlighted two key achievements by the tenants: (1) the unveiling of advanced chip technologies by SkyeChip, proudly designed by Malaysian engineers in Penang, and (2) the ongoing progress by Silicon X, which is currently developing a homegrown proprietary chip in Malaysia—both underscoring the state’s growing role in driving “Made by Malaysia” innovation in the semiconductor sector.
