New facility strengthens Malaysia’s position in advanced equipment manufacturing as demand grows across semiconductor, life science and AI-driven industries
PENANG, 12 June 2026 – Galatek Technologies (Galatek), a global provider of AI-enabled automation, semiconductor equipment and life science technologies, today marked the opening of its manufacturing, assembly and delivery facility in Penang, reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a strategic hub for advanced manufacturing and semiconductor industry development.
The opening ceremony was attended by YAB Mr. Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang, Dato’ Loo Lee Lian, Chief Executive Officer of InvestPenang, Mr. Muhammad Ghaddaffi Sardar Mohamed, Director of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority Penang (MIDA Penang), and, together with Jenny Lee, senior managing parter of Granite Asia, senior leaders from Galatek, industry partners and stakeholders, reflecting the significance of the investment in strengthening Malaysia’s high-technology manufacturing ecosystem.
The facility represents Galatek’s first manufacturing footprint in Malaysia and will serve as a key production and delivery centre supporting customers across Southeast Asia and international markets. The investment forms part of the company’s broader regional expansion strategy and long-term commitment to developing local manufacturing capabilities, talent, and supply chain partnerships.
Backed by investors including Granite Asia, Galatek has invested approximately USD2 million (MYR9.4 million) in its initial Malaysian operations and plans to increase its total investment in Penang to USD100 million within the next five years as it expands production capacity and operational capabilities.
The facility will focus on advanced equipment manufacturing, system integration, assembly, testing and delivery activities, supporting industries including semiconductors, advanced electronics, and life sciences. Through its Penang operations, Galatek aims to strengthen local supplier participation while increasing the localisation of manufacturing and procurement activities.
YAB Mr. Chow Kon Yeow, the Chief Minister of Penang stated, “Galatek’s commitment to further investment and workforce expansion in Penang reflects Galatek’s strong confidence in the state’s future and further reinforces Penang’s reputation as the Silicon Valley of the East — a preferred destination for technology companies seeking to innovate, expand and thrive.” He added, “Galatek’s decision to establish its first manufacturing footprint in Malaysia here in Penang is a testament to the state’s competitiveness and attractiveness. It demonstrates global confidence in Penang’s capabilities not only as a manufacturing base, but also as a centre for innovation, technology development and high-value production.”
The establishment of the facility comes amid continued growth in global demand for semiconductor manufacturing equipment and advanced production technologies. As countries seek to build more resilient and diversified technology supply chains, Malaysia continues to strengthen its position as a preferred destination for high-technology investments, supported by its mature industrial ecosystem, skilled workforce and established semiconductor value chain.
Founded as an AI automation solutions provider serving the semiconductor, and life sciences sectors, Galatek develops technologies that integrate advanced optics, precision motion control, artificial intelligence and automation to improve manufacturing efficiency and process accuracy. The company maintains operations across Asia, Europe and the United States, with Malaysia serving as a key location for its regional production and delivery activities.
Mr. David Tian, Chief Executive Officer, Galatek, said, “Malaysia offers a strong foundation for advanced manufacturing, supported by a highly capable workforce, established semiconductor supply chains and a conducive business environment. Penang was selected as a strategic location for our regional manufacturing and delivery operations because of its deep industry expertise and connectivity to global markets.
The opening of this facility marks an important step in Galatek’s long-term development strategy in Southeast Asia. Beyond manufacturing, we aim to build local engineering capabilities, expand collaboration with Malaysian suppliers and contribute to the continued growth of the country’s high-technology industries.
We believe the next generation of industrial and scientific innovation will increasingly rely on the convergence of AI, automation and advanced equipment systems. Penang provides an exceptional environment for us to build those capabilities and serve global customers from Malaysia.”
“The global demand for AI-enabled semiconductor and advanced manufacturing equipment is at an inflection point — and the companies that have built the right capabilities ahead of that curve will define the next decade. Galatek is one of them. Penang’s industrial heritage, engineering talent and policy environment make it the right home for this next chapter, and this facility is a strong signal of Galatek’s growing stature as a global-calibre company. We are proud to have been part of that journey,” said Ms. Jenny Lee, Senior Managing Partner, Granite Asia.
The Penang facility is expected to create between 20 and 30 jobs in 2026 across engineering, operations, procurement, sales and technical support functions. Over the next five years, the company plans to expand its Malaysian workforce to approximately 100 employees as production activities scale.
As part of its long-term roadmap, Galatek will continue investing in local production capabilities, workforce development and supplier partnerships to support regional and international customers. The company intends for its Penang facility to become a strategic manufacturing and delivery centre supporting the growing demand for advanced semiconductor equipment and automation technologies across global markets.
