Penang, July 21, 2022 – By the grace of Yang Di-Pertua Negeri, Tuan Yang Terutama, Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi Bin Haji Abdul Razak, State EXCO of Pulau Pinang, YB Dato’ Haji Abdul Halim Bin Haji Hussain, Senior Operations Director of DHL Dr. Vijay Balasundram and Managing Director of Titijaya, Mr Lim Poh Yit performed the ground breaking for the DHL new HUB in Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang (today).
The construction will be completed together with CCC in July 2023. The build-up area is about 190,000 sq. ft. with a two-storey warehouse. It will be an ultra-modern warehouse facility primarily for a technology based multinational company. RM 150 million will be invested in the building of the warehouse. The warehouse automation investment is RM 60 million. The warehouse will be equipped with the state-of-the-art automated pallet storage and retrieval system commonly known as ASRS and the GTP (goods to person) robotics technology to handle small parts picking. It is the first of its kind in Penang as well as in Asia Pacific for DHL Supply Chain.
Apart from the ASRS system, DHL will also be implementing the highly sophisticated automated guided vehicle (AGVs) to ensure the highest productivity and efficiency.
It will create a job opportunity for 300 workers. The jobs involved in-house handling, air-conditioned storage and out-bound handling for semicon raw materials. The items will be sorted and delivered to manufacturing plants in Pulau Pinang within one and half hours from the time the order is received.
