[Press Release] AIXTRON Paid Courtesy Visit to Chief Minister Office, Reaffirming Investment Commitment in Penang

Penang, Malaysia, May 6, 2026 — AIXTRON SE, a leading Germany-headquartered provider of deposition equipment to the semiconductor industry, paid a courtesy visit to the Penang Chief Minister’s Office following its land acquisition in April 2026 and recent announcement of the establishment of a new greenfield manufacturing facility on an 8.5-acre site at Bandar Cassia Technology Park, Penang.
This investment will feature an integrated and purpose-built complex comprising a three-storey office building, multiple state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities, and dedicated logistics areas. The greenfield development enables AIXTRON to design and optimise the facility from the ground up, ensuring high efficiency in the manufacturing of its 100 mm, 150 mm, and 200 mm product lines. Its modular design will provide flexibility and enable stepwise expansion in line with future market demand.
This project marks a significant step in AIXTRON’s global expansion strategy and reinforces Penang’s position as the Silicon Valley of the East and a key hub for advanced semiconductor manufacturing in the region.
The Right Honourable Chief Minister of Penang, Mr. Chow Kon Yeow, stated, “Penang welcomes AIXTRON SE’s new investment to establish its integrated manufacturing plant. As the state is now streaming upwards in the global value chain, the presence of high-impact investments such as from AIXTRON SE will bring positive technological spillovers for our supply chain.”
Dr Felix Grawert, CEO and President of AIXTRON SE, added, “As we embark to establish our manufacturing and engineering base in Penang, we seek to collaborate and create long term local partnerships and to contribute to the growth of the Malaysian ecosystem, especially in compound semiconductors which drives power efficiency and data communications for AI.”
The meeting at the Penang Chief Minister’s Office today centered on discussions surrounding AIXTRON’s presence in Penang, including an overview of its upcoming plans. Phase 1 is expected to create approximately 450 jobs, with 50% in engineering and R&D and 50% in assembly in manufacturing.
AIXTRON also expressed its interest on collaborating on the recently-launched Penang Automation, Test and Equipment (ATE) Campus which aims to establish an integrated ecosystem towards empowering local ATE capabilities in the state and provide localisation pathways for multinationals such as AIXTRON. The company highlighted that this model aligns closely with its collaborative practices in Europe.
This engagement underscores AIXTRON’s long-term commitment to Penang, not only as a manufacturing base but as a strategic partner in advancing innovation, talent development, and ecosystem growth within Malaysia’s semiconductor industry.
