GEORGE TOWN (April 10): The Penang Government plans to set up a unit called Digital Penang in keeping with the increasingly technological world, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said today.

He said the Penang Institute, a think tank, is conducting a study on digital transformation and it is expected to be presented to the state government soon.

The State Government needs the support of other organisations such as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang Institute and Invest Penang to ensure the success of such efforts, he told a press conference after launching the Penang office of Monitor Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System, a Swedish company, here.

Chow said the State Government needs the support of other organisations such as the Malaysian Multimedia and Communications Commission (MMCC), Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang Institute and Invest Penang to ensure the success of such efforts.

Earlier, in his speech, Chow said he is happy that the continuous initiatives by Penang to create a business and investment-friendly environment, together with an abundance of human capital, have encouraged Monitor ERP System to increase its presence here.

“I am, therefore, truly thankful and it makes me proud to see that companies from Sweden, which breathes sustainability, efficiency and productivity, are active here in Malaysia and sharing with us their invaluable knowledge in this field.

“The workplace environment here is truly inspiring and I hope that our local companies in Penang will try something similar and be inspired by your concept,” he said.

MONITOR G5 of Monitor ERP System, Sweden’s leading ERP systems firm for manufacturing companies, at its new ASEAN headquarters located in Straits Quay, Tanjong Tokong, near here, offers a whole-new technical platform and friendlier user interface to enhance work efficiency and heighten productivity.
