November 24, 2022 – Memory and storage solutions provider Micron Technology has set up the first public-privately funded childcare centre in the country in a bid to support work-life balance for its employees.

Its president and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said the childcare centre was set up through a partnership with the Penang government and TalentCorp.

“The childcare centre will be operating this December and it is expected to accommodate up to 100 children between the age of three and six years,” he told reporters at the launch of the childcare centre at the Borealis commercial centre yesterday.

Sanjay said the centre would be managed by the WhyteHouse Education Group, an established operator of early childcare education facilities in Malaysia.

He said the centre was only opened for children of Micron employees at an affordable fee as the focus was to ease the burden of working parents by providing a safe daycare for their children, while they were at work.

“Access to childcare is one of the biggest factors that determine whether working parents, and mothers specifically, are able to build a strong and fulfilling career. This is part of Micron’s strategy to build a diverse team with the strongest talent,” he said.

Sanjay said that with the outcome of the experiment of the first childcare centre in Penang, expansion plans might take place in the future.
