BUKIT MERTAJAM: Integrated Cold Chain Logistics Sdn Bhd (ICCL), a leading total logistics company in the country, launched its new one-stop regional distribution and centre of excellence for the halal logistics industry.

The RM51 million investment, as part of the company’s phase five development, was jointly launched by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, witnessed by ICCL Group of Companies group managing director Kevin Lim Poo Koy at its plant at Jalan Perindustrian Bukit Minyak here today.

With a multiple temperature storage system, ICCL aims to become a regional distribution centre that offers comprehensive total logistics cold chain solutions with value added services, including supply chain solutions, repackaging, cross-docking and cross border services.

As for the halal logistics centre of excellence, it will position ICCL in providing leadership with training and counseling services for best practices in halal logistics.

Poo Koy said that the new logistics centre was not a conventional warehouse, but an AS/RS (automated storage and retrieval system) facility which requires no personnel for its operations.

“The first of its kind in Malaysia, this facility is housed within a controlled temperature environment,” he said in his speech.

Lim said that the investment made by the company was a testament to the country’s economical climate.

“The economic growth will continue to progress even after the change of government. The government is committed to playing an important role in the development and growth of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

“ICCL’s efforts to develop the logistics connectivity throughout the Indo China region will directly benefit and facilitate the economic development of the countries involved, thereby supporting the AEC agenda,” he said in his speech.

Meanwhile, Chow lauded ICCL’s latest investment in the new high technology logistics centre which would directly increase the growing logistics capacity for Penang, creating logistics capabilities for businesses to tap in to and grow together while supporting the entire supply chain ecosystem.

“ICCL’s strategy to attract the transfer of technology from expertise abroad will also help to grow the capabilities of local logisticians,” added Chow.

After the launching ceremony, ICCL donated RM99,999.99 to Tabung Harapan Malaysia. A mock cheque was presented to Lim.

Also present was ICCL Group of Companies director Datuk Mohd Nordin Mohd Nor.
