DCM Witnesses Launch and MoU Signing with PSDC
PENANG, 18 JUNE 2025 – KUKA Robotics Malaysia has officially launched its new Penang branch in Bandar Cassia, Batu Kawan — reinforcing its commitment to advancing industrial automation and robotics innovation in Malaysia and the Southeast Asia region.
The ceremony was graced by YB Tuan Jagdeep Singh Deo, Deputy Chief Minister II of Penang, alongside senior representatives from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), InvestPenang, and key industry leaders.
This Penang launch follows the successful establishment of KUKA’s first Malaysian office in Puchong, Selangor, which was officiated by Puan Yeoh Bee Yin, then-Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment, and Climate Change. The Penang expansion marks KUKA’s strategic commitment to supporting northern Malaysia’s growing role as a high-tech and smart manufacturing hub.
In conjunction with the opening, KUKA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC) to collaborate on robotics training and workforce development — a key initiative aligned with Malaysia’s Industry 4.0 vision.
YB Tuan Jagdeep Singh Deo, Deputy Chief Minister II of Penang stated, “With over 50 years of industrial excellence, Penang has built a dynamic ecosystem that not only attracts global investments but also fosters innovation and technological advancement. The expansion of KUKA into Penang reflects the state’s growing reputation as an advanced manufacturing destination.” He added, “The MoU signed between KUKA and PSDC is a strategic step forward, opening new avenues for collaborative innovation and the development of future-ready talent in high-tech fields.”
“Penang’s strength in advanced manufacturing makes it the ideal location for KUKA’s next chapter. We are proud to partner with state agencies and PSDC to shape the next generation of industrial talent,” said Mr. Tean Shen Zen, CEO of KUKA Southeast Asia.
“KUKA’s investment in Penang reflects our confidence in Malaysia as a strategic partner for innovation in automation and robotics,” added Mr. Alan Fam, Chief Regional Officer, KUKA APeC.
“We are excited to partner with KUKA to jointly establish a robotic training lab facility at PSDC. This collaboration is designed to equip emerging talents to meet the increasing demand for skilled professionals in robotic operations. Together, we aim to bridge the skills gap and foster greater innovation and competitiveness within the local ecosystem,” said Dr. Hari Narayanan, Chief Executive Officer of Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC).
The event featured speeches from government and KUKA leaders, a ribbon-cutting by distinguished guests, a traditional lion dance performance, and a guided tour of the new facility. The Penang office also houses an Application Center showcasing KUKA’s robotic solutions across sectors including electronics, automotive, logistics, and medical, as well as a Swisslog AutoStore demo, representing KUKA’s intralogistics arm.
Over 100 invited guests attended, including media, customers, system integrators, educational partners, and government representatives.
