Mar 11 – Entrepreneurship among women can now reach greater heights through the ‘Women Entrepreneurship with Exabytes’ initiative by digital solutions provider Exabytes.

Launched in conjunction with International Women’s Day 2021, the initiative aims to nurture entrepreneurship in 100 women across the country and in Singapore with free websites or online stores.

The company’s founder and chief executive officer Chan Kee Siak said it would sponsor a total sum amounting to RM350,000 and SGD350,000 in the form of products and services.

“Over the past year, the acceleration of digital adoption and shift to e-commerce have allowed for the creation of many new entrepreneurs.

“E-commerce platforms give everyone an equal chance to attain better livelihoods and that is what we want to achieve with ‘Women Entrepreneurship with Exabytes’.

“Through our years of experience digitalising SMEs, we have seen how simply setting up an online store or website immediately kickstarts entrepreneurial journeys.

“Our other initiatives including Sama-Sama Digital has also helped many SMEs in Malaysia to take the first step in their digital journey.

“Additionally, we have seen many success stories from our past initiatives.

“Sales increased for many business owners after digitalisation, ” said Chan during a virtual launch event.

‘Women Entrepreneurship with Exabytes’ will run throughout March and is open to any woman entrepreneur in Malaysia or Singapore who has a registered business.

The deadline to apply is March 31.

Meanwhile, Penang social development committee chairman Chong Eng, who was present, welcomed the support and hoped more companies would start similar initiatives to provide more opportunities for women in economic development.

“This initiative is in line with the state’s 2030 vision to encourage more women in business.

“Our target is to have 100,000 women owning SMEs.

“There is still a big economic gap between men and women and we wish women to share the power, ” she said.
