
[Press Release] Stakeholders in Bayan Lepas Vicinity Briefed on LRT Mutiara Line Construction and Traffic Management Plans

PENANG, 2 OCTOBER 2025 – InvestPenang today organised a Town Hall Session on the Penang LRT Mutiara Line Project, chaired by YB Zairil Khir Johari, Penang State EXCO for Infrastructure, Transport & Digital, with the support of Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp). The session brought together approximately 200 stakeholders from Bayan Lepas Industrial Park, Bayan Baru, Batu Maung and Sungai Tiram to be briefed on the traffic management plans (TMP) and mitigation measures during the construction of the state’s landmark rail project, which broke ground on 11 January 2025.
Construction works in the Bayan Lepas vicinity will commence this October with utilities relocation, road widening, and site clearing. Large-scale construction is scheduled to begin by the end of December 2025. The line is expected to begin operations in 2031 with two stations in Bayan Lepas area—FIZ North and FIZ South, which will be strategically located along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah.
During the Town Hall, MRT Corp, the project developer and asset owner, provided a comprehensive briefing on the overall project plan and timeline. While, SRS Consortium, the project’s contractor, presented contractor responsibilities, and the TMP specifically for Bayan Lepas area. Key measures include phased lane closures, designated diversion routes, and enhanced traffic monitoring systems. The consortium further outlined baseline requirements, construction deliverables, safety compliance measures, and progress milestones that will guide project implementation.

A Q&A session was held together with YB Zairil, the Project Director of LRT Penang, Mr Azmi Abdul Rahman and the Project Director of SRS Consortium, Mr Adil Putra Ahmad, which provided stakeholders the opportunity to raise concerns directly with the project team.
