Lanco Integrated vice-president (sales and marketing) Barry Rahimian said the new manufacturing facility will focus on constructing, designing and building a customised engineered turnkey automated assembly system.
“The system is used in various industries, including medical, commercial industrial, automotive, aerospace, consumer products and others.
“We expect the first designed and built machine to be ready for shipping by the end of this year.
“This is an incredible and exciting project for us because we believe that Penang is strategically located as a manufacturing hub. Penang’s location enables us to further expand our operations.
“We are also very grateful for the strong support from the Federal Government, Penang government and all the relevant agencies.
“We look forward to working with all of you to achieve great success,” Barry said in his speech at the opening ceremony today.
Penang Entrepreneurial Development, Trade and Industry Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain, who attended the ceremony, said Penang is excited and proud to welcome the presence of Lanco Integrated here.
“Penang is pleased to be the choice location for Lanco’s new manufacturing facility.
“My sincerest congratulations to the Lanco Integrated team and all those involved for their dedication and hard work in achieving this milestone.
“We are confident that Penang’s versatile talent pool, supportive infrastructure and strong industry clusters will enable industry players to enjoy far-reaching benefits in terms of operational advantages.
“With 50 years of industrial excellence, Penang has built a strong base in electrical and electronics (E&E) manufacturing, which acts as a springboard for diversification into other industries.
“For instance, Penang is known as a key regional hub for automation and equipment manufacturing, serving the needs of various industries along the value chain.
“Above that, Penang is also a hub for the medical device industry in this region, having the highest concentrations of medical technology companies in Malaysia and Southeast Asia,” he said.
Abdul Halim also added that embracing technology and automation is among the keys to remaining competitive and operationally efficient in the market.
“It is the determining factor for business players in Malaysia to future-proof themselves by adopting cutting-edge technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), the internet of things (IoT), and robotics, among others.
“This is critical for industrial players to raise productivity and to be ahead of the curve.
“The state government, supported by InvestPenang, is also committed to creating an environment that encourages companies to integrate advance technology into their businesses,” Abdul Halim said.
Also present during the opening ceremony were Chief Minister’s special investment adviser Datuk Seri Lee Kah Choon and Lanco Integrated chief executive officer Bob Kuniega.
