He said Seberang Prai has big potential for industrial as well as socio-economic development, including in the areas of culture, art and tourism.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope to have balanced growth on the mainland as on the island, so that residents here will not lag behind in term of economic progress.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the past few years, we have seen rapid development especially in Batu Kawan and its surrounding area.<\/p>\n

\u201cBatu Kawan has become an important township for international investments, electrical and electronics companies apart from the service, commercial and business sectors,\u201d he said at the Chinese New Year arch opening and lantern lighting ceremony at Rumah Warisan Bukit Tambun in Simpang Ampat near Nibong Tebal recently.<\/p>\n

Batu Kawan MP Kasthuriraani Patto thanked Bukit Tambun residents for their support for the projects organised by her service centre and Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik\u2019s service centre called, \u2018Projek Peduli Bukit Tambun\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a collaborative effort to preserve the cultural, historical and traditional values of the people in Bukit Tambun.<\/p>\n

\u201cBatu Kawan is ready to become the next catalyst of growth for Penang.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe already have a few big projects coming up such as a hospital, institutions of higher learning, Ikea and several housing projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to see Batu Kawan strike a healthy balance between development and cultural heritage as what we can see here,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Kasthuriraani said she hoped to initiate the preservation of more cultural villages within the Batu Kawan constituency.<\/p>\n

Goh called on Bukit Tambun residents to jointly help develop tourism in Bukit Tambun, Pulau Aman and Batu Kawan.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also hope the authorities will preserve and keep the heritage art of the 49 heritage buildings in Bukit Tambun that have been identified by the Seberang Prai Municipal Council,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister (I) Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, state exco members Chong Eng and Yeoh Soon Hin, Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng and south Seberang Prai OCPD Supt Shafee Abd Samat.<\/p>\n
