Background

Lam Manufacturing Malaysia (LMM), a subsidiary of Lam Research Corp, announced its RM1 billion (~US$225 million) investment to build a 700,000 sqft manufacturing facility in the Batu Kawan Industrial Park, Penang in early-2020. They are targeting to complete the building construction in Q2/2021 and first shipment in Q3/2021.

Being one of the global leaders in front-end semiconductor equipment manufacturing, Lam Research’s presence is expected to bring far-reaching impacts to Penang in many aspects, from supply chain localization, technical workforce skillset to economic spillover effects.

Objective

This event serves as a platform to encourage interaction between the anchor multi-national and potential local suppliers. Aside from Lam’s sharing on its vendor strategies,  it was proposed that the local companies to have an opportunity to present their offers to the anchor company on a one-to-one basis in the later stage.

Presenter: Mr. Nic Rossi, Vice President of Asia Supply chain, Lam Research

Nic Rossi is the Vice President of Asia Supply Chain for Lam Research, he is accountable for Asia internal and remote factories outsourcing management, material sourcing regionalization and supplier development in Asia. Before joining Lam in 2014, he held several executive leadership and operational engineering positions including Conexant Systems (Formerly Rockwell Semiconductor) in Shanghai and Hong Kong, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing (Currently Global Foundries) in Singapore, and AT&T Bell Laboratories in the US. He holds a doctorate in applied physics/material science from Ecole Polytechnique in Paris, an MBA from Columbia business school in New York, and has over 50 patents in semiconductor process manufacturing.
