Cost of Doing Business
Penang offers the cheapest water supply in the country and possibly in ASEAN. Electricity tariff in Penang and Malaysia is competitive in the region.
According to the ECA Cost of Living Survey 2009, George Town ranked 218 is cheaper than Kuala Lumpur, which ranked 210 and Johor Bahru, which ranked 216.
The one-time cost of setting up a business in Penang, such as securing land or building and equipping it with the necessary facilities is much cheaper than cities like Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei, Seoul, Bangkok and even Ho Chi Minh City.
