Demography
Although Penang is the second smallest State in Malaysia, it is one of the most densely populated. There are about 1.6 million population in Penang, almost equally spread out between Penang Island and Mainland Penang. There also seems to be almost equal distribution between men and women.
Penang is well endowed with people from all races and culture. In broad categories, 95% of the population are Malaysian, of which the Muslim Malays account for 44.5%; non-Muslim natives account for 0.4%, Chinese account for 44.3%, Indians account for 10.4% and people of other origins like Burmese, Portuguese Eurasians, etc account for the balance 0.4%.
